Place Group is delighted to have been appointed as the PMC for what would be Trafford’s first Academy. The proposed Academy is being sponsored by Trafford College and is due to open in September 2010, bringing together Stretford High School and Lostock College. It will operate from both sites until the new Academy building, which will cater for 1,050 pupils, opens on the Stretford High School site in 2013.

The new Academy will be a resource for the whole community, providing students, residents and other schools with access to exciting new resources, purpose-built learning spaces and first class facilities during and outside school hours. It will also offer a new Science specialism which will be developed along with regional employers - working closely with local partners Manchester United Foundation and Lancashire County Cricket Club to provide additional sporting facilities

Trafford College, which was recognised as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted last year, has a vision for the Academy which centres around the delivery of world class learning and better skills - as well as improving the ‘employability’ of young people, and inspiring them to achieve their individual goals and dreams. The College already plays a significant role in the economic and social regeneration of the North Trafford area, with two existing college sites in Stretford. The new Academy will continue and build on that work, to create real opportunities for local people to develop essential skills and expertise.
